Adventures in Movie Going
![]()
I've been really looking forward to Pirates of the Carribean : Dead Man's Chest and there was nothing that was going to keep me from seeing it including hubby who hates opening weekends at the theater *rolleyes*. Both the kids are up for it so we were all set for going on Saturday night.
Now there are three.
I post on the local Browncoat thread that I'm going and would any of them like to join us ... we get one ... better than nothing. I'm getting excited ... there's nothing better than another fan (that's not a teen/ pre-teen) to talk it over with. Wish more local 'Coats would show to such gatherings but sadly we're spread quite thin over a large area and most folks just aren't up for driving 45-60 minutes to go see a movie!
So now there are four.
I get a call from Mom ... "we want to take the kids to see Pirates". Riiight. Well since I'm planning on taking the kids why don't you guys join us? So we get 2 more. Hey the more the marrier.
Now there are six. We're rolling now!
10 minutes after I talk to the Mom one of TYL's friends calls up ... "Would TYL like to go see Pirates?" I just about bust out laughing. So they join us also. That's 4 more people ... turning into a party and I'm loving it!
We're up to 10 now!
20 minutes before we head out to the show my dear old Mom calls and says she and Dad are too tired to go see a movie and they cancel *grrrr* but OK ... we've still got 8.
So the kids and I show up at the theater for the 7:30 showing ... it's sold out *eek* So we get tickets for the 8 ... and they're already lining up to get into the theater for that one! My Browncoat friend shows so that's great now we're on the lookout for TYL's friend and her fam ... they never get there *pout*... so in the end it was just us four *le sigh*
The movie was a lot of fun ... we all enjoyed it! It won't win any acting awards but I really liked the story and the action ... I'll probably write it up in another post.
Got a message on my cell during the movie ... turns out the people we were waiting for DID show up but all the showings were sold out ... so they turned around and went home *pout again*
I think this might be why hubby's not so much into opening weekend movie experiences. But I still love it ... a theater full of other folks enjoying the same movie is always so much more fun than sitting in an almost empty theater!

POTC was a lot of fun. We didn't make it opening night, but there was a good reason. The move was scheduled for the day AFTER, and I was too hyper about that to have made it to a movie.
I do LOVE going to movies opening day, though. Just as a tip, I always make sure to swing by the theater early to pick up tickets. Then, we always get to the theater at least a half-hour before showtime. You may have to sit around with some downtime, but at least you're assured a good pick of seats. And you can always bring along your iPod for entertainment while you wait! ;-)
That's a good point Caroline. It's been quite a while since I've been to a blockbuster movie on opening weekend so I was totally unprepared LOL
And believe be I bring my iPod everywhere. I love being able to just tune-in to my favourite podcast while waiting and waiting for whatever is going on that day.
